Medicare Advantage in 2026: What's New and What to Watch
Reviewed by Galit Sacajiu MD, MPH
More than 34 million Americans — over half of all Medicare beneficiaries — are now enrolled in Medicare Advantage (Part C). For 2026, the program remains stable with a few notable changes.
Average Premium Drops to $14/Month
The average monthly Medicare Advantage premium for 2026 is $14.00, continuing the downward trend from recent years. Many plans remain available at $0 per month, though the number of $0-premium plans has declined slightly as insurers adjust for rising healthcare costs.
Out-of-Pocket Maximum Rises
The maximum in-network out-of-pocket limit for Medicare Advantage plans in 2026 is $9,350 — up from prior years. The combined in/out-of-network cap is $14,000. These are maximums; many plans set lower limits.
Extra Benefits Continue to Expand
Most Medicare Advantage plans continue to offer extra benefits beyond Original Medicare, including dental, vision, hearing, fitness programs (like SilverSneakers), and transportation. Some plans offer meal delivery and home modification benefits.
What to Review During Open Enrollment
The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 – December 7. During this window, review: - Whether your doctors are still in-network - Whether your prescription drugs are still on the formulary - Whether a lower-premium plan covers your needs - Star ratings (CMS rates plans 1–5 stars; 4+ is generally considered good)
